Research On Zhenjiang Brigade Commander In Liaodong Of The Ming Dynasty

The construction of Zhenjiang City and the establishment of Zhenjiang Brigade Commander began in 1596,during the period of the Imjin War,and made outstanding contributions to the victory of the Imjin War.After the war,Zhenjiang Brigade Commander directly negotiated with the Joseon Dynasty and occupied an important position in the history of Sino-Korean relations in the late Ming Dynasty.The original intention of Zhenjiang Brigade Commander was to prevent Japanese pirates at sea,but it did not directly participate in military operations related to the war.After the war,in the Ming Dynasty’s defense plan against Japan,the Zhenjiang Brigade Commander became a node in the Ming Dynasty’s Northeast Defense Assistance System and was responsible for transmitting Japanese intelligence.In the rehabilitation of Joseon Dynasty,it participated in and implemented the handling of leftover food and desertion issues.In addition to fulfilling its original military responsibilities,the Zhenjiang Brigade Commander is more involved in border negotiations and exchanges with Joseon Dynasty in various aspects.Its political exchanges with Joseon Dynasty indicate that diplomatic power has been delegated to border yamen,and expressing opinions on border personnel and land issues reflects the principle of handling them nearby.The attention paid to the Seki of Zhongjiang reflects the economic interest dispute in the border area.The Li Kexin military training incident has exposed the current situation of the lack of military mutual trust between the two countries in Ming Dynasty and Joseon Dynasty.The rise of the Later Jin Dynasty interrupted the natural development of such negotiations and exchanges.Although the Zhenjiang Brigade Commanders made efforts to negotiate with Joseon Dynasty before the Battle of Sarhu,supervised Joseon Dynasty during the battle,maintained contact,and strengthened defense after the battle,they still could not change the fate of being terminated by the Later Jin Dynasty.As a military officer,Zhenjiang Brigade Commander cannot change its status as a subordinate to the Liaodong Military Garrison System.However,its flexible role in border affairs negotiations between the two countries had a positive and negative impact on Sino-Korean relations in the late Ming Dynasty,highlighting its unique position in border diplomacy.
