| China’s urban development has entered the stage of "stock renewal",and the renovation of old residential areas has become an important urban construction task at this stage.A large number of old residential areas built before this century, due to the long construction period and the limitation of design thinking at that time, their public space can no longer meet the material needs and spiritual and cultural pursuit of residents in the residential area, and their shortcomings are mainly reflected in the vague space function, aging living service facilities, lack of landscape environment, disordered management and lack of humanistic elements.A good public space in the community can improve the quality of life of residents and revitalize the community. From the perspective of residents,a good public space in a residential area can not only improve their daily life, entertainment, and learning, but also affect their spiritual outlook and the construction of harmonious neighborhood relationships, triggering their inner sense of belonging and security;from the perspective of urban development, the establishment of harmonious social relationships, friendly ecological relationships, and beautiful green environments in old residential areas within a city can promote a virtuous cycle of urban renewal and ecological restoration. Therefore,it is imperative to carry out the renovation design of public spaces in old residential areas, and it is urgent to carry out research on other renovation design theory and methods. This study first analyzes and studies the stages and characteristics of urban renewal,as well as the evolution of residential community renovation methods. It clarifies the direction, main goals, and methods of public space renovation in old residential areas during the development stage of urban "stock renewal" in China;secondly, analyze the renovation of old residential areas in Gulou District,Fuzhou’s old urban area, and summarize relevant case studies to draw lessons from;then, this article selects a typical old residential area in the old urban area of Fuzhou-Provincial Huqian Community in Gulou District as a research case.Using methods such as an literature analysis, practical research, and the questionnaire survey,it analyzes the diverse needs of residents for public space renovation, and proposes the principles, the target system, design ideas, and design implementation guarantee strategies for public space renovation design in residential areas. This study believes that in the context of urban renewal, the renovation and renovation of public spaces in old residential areas is different from the previous renovation models that mainly focused on landscape renovation and facility improvement, and cannot follow the old path of "large-scale demolition and construction".Instead,it needs to combine the policy requirements of urban renewal and development, take the diverse needs of residents in the residential area as the value orientation, and start from multiple perspectives such as the society, ecology, history, culture, medical care, and elderly care, develop multi-level,multi element, and multi-dimensional renovation design goals, and consider the synergy between the multi-dimensional goals of public space renovation design in old residential areas. That is to say,in the new era,the design of public space renovation in old residential areas should no longer be limited to the physical environment of the community, but should be coordinated from spatial elements, facility elements, and cultural elements, and the three elements should be subdivided and implemented into multiple levels and dimensions of public space renovation design in old residential areas.By optimizing spatial elements, improving facility elements, and enhancing cultural elements,we can fully tap into the existing space within the community, maximize the utilization of public space resources within the community, fully meet the diverse living needs of residents, build a beautiful, ecologically harmonious, and historical and cultural living environment, and provide good feedback on urban renewal. In addition, the realization and maintenance of the design goals for the renovation of old residential areas need to be considered from the perspectives of rights and responsibilities, funding sources, and later management. This requires integrating relevant entities in the renovation of old residential areas, actively mobilizing the enthusiasm of residents in the renovation, and realizing the transformation of the role of residents from "recipients" to "masters".This study aims at provide a collaborative perspective with urban and social development on the renovation design of public spaces in old residential areas, and to provide ideas and strategies for the renovation design. |
