In recent years,China has made unprecedented efforts to protect traditional villages. As of2023,the number of national level traditional villages in Mianyang City has increased to 16.However,due to factors such as village expansion, renovation and demolition of traditional buildings, the spatial form of traditional villages has been impacted, resulting in a decrease in the integrity and identifiability of village form, and the gradual disappearance of traditional rural style. Therefore, protecting the spatial form of traditional villages has become an important link in protecting traditional villages. This article will use spatial syntax as a quantitative analysis method to study the spatial form of traditional villages in Mianyang City,in order to supplement the field of quantitative research on traditional villages in Mianyang City. This paper selects 16 national level traditional villages in Mianyang City as the research objects.Through on-site research and data review, traditional village spatial morphology images are obtained, and axis analysis models and perspective analysis models are constructed. The spatial morphology is quantitatively analyzed using Depthmap+Beta1.0 spatial syntax analysis software. The following data and cognitive patterns were obtained:From the perspective of overall spatial form, analyzing the spatial form of villages from the perspectives of "integration degree, depth value, and comprehensibility",it was found that the overall integration degree(i.e.the ability of the space to gather people in the system)of traditional villages in Mianyang City is in the range of 0.3 to 1.1,and the average depth value(the difficulty of reaching other spaces in a certain space)is in the range of 3.8 to 16.3.The comprehensibility(the perception ability of people in local spaces to perceive the overall space),Low comprehensibility(R2 <There are 12 villages in 0.5,with moderate comprehensibility(0.5>R2>0.7)has 2 villages with high comprehensibility(R2>0.7)has 2villages.And based on this,it is compared and analyzed that the forms of different traditional villages are different, the structural laws are similar, the integrated core has multiple attributes, and the traditional villages provide shelter for the original residents. And further summed up the dynamic, cohesion, historical, organic and self acting nature of the formation process of the spatial form of traditional villages in Mianyang City.Quantitative analysis of traditional villages, streets, alleys, and nodes is conducted from the perspective of internal spatial morphology, combined with the perspective analysis method. The research results indicate that the internal spatial form of traditional villages influences people’s behavioral judgments through visual relationships. This is mainly manifested in the following aspects: the correlation between visual center and spatial layout; There are differences in the direction of pedestrian flow among different spaces, and various streets and alleys have different guiding functions; There is a correlation between spatial information and activity psychological needs. Finally, based on spatial syntax, this study explores the application value of spatial syntax in the renewal and protection of traditional village spatial forms in Mianyang City from both the overall and internal spatial levels, and proposes a series of improvement measures based on spatial syntax. This paper enriches the research achievements of traditional villages in Mianyang. On the basis of qualitative research on the spatial morphology of traditional villages, the introduction of spatial syntax,a quantitative analysis means, adds another perspective to the research on the spatial morphology of traditional villages. The optimization measures based on spatial syntax in this paper also have certain reference value for the renewal and protection of traditional villages in similar regions.
