| The digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises is gaining significant momentum, but in practice, they often face challenges such as resource constraints, lack of digital capabilities, and volatile environment, leading to a state of digital transformation dilemma. The increasingly intense nature of digital transformation practices calls for research from the academic community. However, existing studies have failed to meet the practical needs of overcoming transformation challenges.Due to differing research perspectives, scholars have yet to establish a clear consensus on the concept of digital transformation, and research on digital innovation is still in its nascent stage. This paper aims to address these gaps by constructing the concept of digital transformation strategy and exploring its impact on digital innovation performance. The objective is to assist enterprises in overcoming the challenges of digital transformation and,to some extent, enrich the research on digital innovation performance. This article employs an exploratory case study approach to construct the conceptual framework of digital transformation strategy in manufacturing companies. The process involves the application of digital technologies to transform the company’s strategy under top-level leadership, resulting in comprehensive changes in organizational structure, operational processes, business models, and value creation methods. The case analysis defines the core concepts of this study and identifies the direct impact of digital transformation strategy on digital innovation performance,as well as the mediating roles of resource bricolage and digital empowerment.Based on the findings from the case analysis, existing literature, and theories, research hypotheses are proposed and empirically tested. The results indicate the following:(1)Digital transformation strategy positively influences the innovation performance of both digital products and services and digital processes,(2)The dynamic nature of the environment positively moderates the relationship between digital transformation strategy and digital process innovation performance, but its positive moderating effect on the relationship between digital transformation strategy and digital product and service innovation performance is not significant.(3)Resource bricolage partially mediates the relationship between digital transformation strategy and innovation performance of digital products and services.(4)Resource bricolage partially mediates the relationship between digital transformation strategy and innovation performance of digital processes.(5)Digital empowerment partially mediates the relationship between digital transformation strategy and innovation performance of digital products and services.(6)Digital empowerment partially mediates the relationship between digital transformation strategy and innovation performance of digital processes. This article presents two main innovations.Firstly,it enhances the concept of digital transformation strategy by aiming to provide a comprehensive description of organizational digital transformation at the strategic level. This move overcomes the limitations of existing digital transformation research that focuses on a single perspective, such as business models, operational processes, organizational structures, and value creation.Consequently,it enriches the field of digital transformation research.Secondly, the article explores the impact mechanism of digital transformation strategy on digital innovation performance. It provides explanations for the divergent findings in existing research regarding the effects of digital transformation on different dimensions of organizational performance from the perspective of resources and capabilities. The objective is to assist manufacturing enterprises in overcoming the challenges of digital transformation and,to some extent, enrich the research on digital transformation strategy and digital innovation. |
