Ecology and sustainable development have been important propositions in the development of human society in recent years,and the field of architecture is gradually exploring specific measures to integrate architecture and ecology.As an important source of ecological attributes in architecture,architectural skin should naturally become a research focus for people.As an important branch of architectural skin application,wooden surface stands out among numerous surface types due to its unique material properties,performance advantages,and forms of expression.Wooden surface not only creates a good living environment,but also reflects the spiritual connotations of building ecology,regionalism,and culture.Firstly,through the analysis of literature,this article summarizes the important nodes of surface development,and based on surface-theory,discusses the evolution process of wooden surface in Eastern and Western wooden architecture.It summarizes the reasons for the development and application characteristics of wooden surface.Secondly,further explain the concept,functional classification,construction elements,and characteristics of contemporary wooden surface,and analyze the manifestation and spatial characteristics of wooden surface in small and medium-sized buildings through examples.Finally,propose the design methods of contemporary wooden surface and summarize the specific design application strategies of wooden surface in small and medium-sized buildings.This article is divided into five chapters,with the main content as follows:The first chapter is an introduction,briefly explaining the research background,content,purpose,and significance of this article.It also provides a review of the research overview,and introduces the research methods and framework of this article.The second chapter firstly provides an overview of the important nodes in the development of surface-theory,and then discusses the evolution of wooden surface.It analyzes the relationship between the expression forms of wooden surface enclosure,structure and decorative functions,and the wooden construction system,and proposes the development trend of contemporary new wooden surface structures.Then it summarizes the values,technical factors and design thinking that promote the change of wood structure surface,points out the advantages of wood structure surface in terms of material performance,ecological properties,use performance and construction,and attributes the failure of wood structure skin to achieve large-scale popularization and application to factors such as resources,costs and inherent ideas.The third chapter revolves around contemporary wooden surface.Firstly,the concept of wooden surface is defined,and wooden surface are classified and elaborated based on their functions.They are divided into four types: enclosure,structure,decoration,and composite.Based on the technical background of the wood structure system,introduce the new manifestations of contemporary wood structure surface in terms of materials,structure,and construction.Under the new construction system,contemporary wooden structures exhibit characteristics and trends such as componentization and particleization,compounding and freedom of form.The fourth chapter explores the correlation between wooden skin and small and medium-sized buildings,and combines a large number of architectural examples to summarize the ecological,regional,and visual manifestations of wooden surface in small and medium-sized buildings.At the same time,it is pointed out that the continuous and substantial characteristics of the enclosure type and structural type wooden surface have a significant impact on the generation of small and medium-sized building spaces,and four main spatial generation methods of wooden surface are summarized.The fifth chapter categorizes the design of wooden surface into two directions,namely the creation of external forms and the consideration of structure and space.Based on this,two design methods,namely form composition and digital weaving,are proposed.Then,based on the comprehensive requirements of small and medium-sized buildings for materials,form,function,space,etc.,corresponding design strategies were summarized.This article conducts a systematic study on the development and evolution,application advantages,concept indications,characteristic attributes,functional classification,and other aspects of wooden surface.It emphasizes the important influence of historical background,values,and technical factors on the development of wooden surface.The above research helps to enrich the theoretical system of wooden surface,enrich the connotation of contemporary wooden surface,and establish an objective and clear understanding of wooden surface.By studying the application of wooden skin in small and medium-sized buildings,the expression forms and spatial generation rules of wooden surface are summarized,and the design methods and strategies of wooden surface are summarized.This helps to broaden the application range of wooden surface in architecture and provides reference significance for the design practice of wooden surface in architecture.
