Our country has a long history of weights and measures.The traditional weights and measures such as Sheng,Dou,Scales and Rulers reflect the politics,economy and culture of different historical periods.Measuring instruments such as Shengdou are closely related to people’s production and life,and play a vital role in social development.Since the Qing Dynasty,a large number of utensils such as Shengdou have been spread and preserved.However,with the development of science and technology,Shengdou has gradually been replaced by advanced measuring instruments,losing its function as a measuring instrument and the ecological environment on which it depends,and gradually becoming rare.Now it is mostly used as folk ritual utensils,common containers and handicrafts.This paper takes the Shengdou of the measuring instrument as the research object.First of all,combined with the literature,from the historical point of view,the origin,development and evolution of the Shengdou,the official calibration issued a strict standard,each dynasty Shengdou shape style,unit value is getting higher and higher on the whole,the folk Shengdou is the capacity and size of the big difference,the shape is different,with great freedom.Secondly,after field investigation and investigation,based on a large number of existing folk Shengdou objects,the overall shape of the folk Shengdou is divided into two categories: square and round,with great differences in specific forms.Selection of materials of Shengdou because of place,according to the time,materials of our country south and north folk Shengdou,shapes of different;Square and round wooden hoops are mostly made of mortise and tenon and round wood hoops in traditional wood manufacturing processes.Other materials such as bamboo,rattan,copper,iron and other materials are also made of materials.And from the design point of view of the creation of the folk Shengdou thought.Thirdly,by summarizing and sorting out the literature and field research of the folk Shengdou physical data,it can be seen that the decoration patterns of Shengdou are mainly marked characters and auspicious characters.Finally,combining Shengdou’s important role and influence in folk production and life,as well as life rituals and customs such as marriage,childbearing and funeral,folk Kuixing worship and star belief,and festival sacrifice,this paper studies the rich cultural connotation of Shengdou in folk.
