Long-distance oil pipelines have to be placed in wild environment including many cross-river sections.Oil leaking from cross-river pipelines may cause disastrous pollution in a short time as oil drifts rapidly downstream with river water. Therefore, study on leaking oil drifting process on river surface has a vital significance for oil leaking accident rescue.Firstly, the drifting process of leaking oil across two practical river channels is numerically simulated for multiple leaking conditions. The leakage location closer to the middle of river channel has larger pollution area on river surface.Higher river water flow velocity causes faster leaking oil drifting downstream.Higher oil leaking mass flow rate results in higher oil volume fraction in river water.Leaking oil accumulates in the expansion section of the river. In addition,a real river scaled-down experiment system is established. The oil drifting process in practical river channels with different dimensions is numerically simulated in order to verify the validity of the scaled-down experiment and provide a method for mapping the oil drift on different river channels. The scaled-down experimental platform is used to conduct leaking oil drifting process in river.Higher river water flow causes faster leaking oil drifting downstream.Higher oil leaking flow results in higher oil thickness.Cross-river oil pipelines should to be placed in downstream of the small changes in width section of the river. The conclusions may provide technical support for predicting spreading and drifting process of leaking oil from cross-river pipeline.
