Rare earth functional materials encompass various types of materials,such as permanent magnets,luminescent materials,catalytic materials,crystal materials,and high-purity materials.These materials are considered as strategic emerging industries that many countries focus on developing,making them a crucial component of the high-tech industry.China,in particular,recognizes the significant role that the industrial development of rare earth functional materials plays in upgrading its resource pattern and boosting economic and social growth.To evaluate and analyze the development trend of the industry,patent data serves as an important tool.Analyzing patent literature allows us to identify core patent technologies in China’s rare earth functional materials field,make informed predictions about future development trends,and support decision-making processes for related enterprises and research institutions.Ultimately,these efforts aim to foster technological innovation,enhance the locational attributes of China’s rare earth functional materials industry,and promote high-quality development within the rare earth industry.This paper uses the rare earth functional materials related patents publicly announced in the China Patent Gazette of the State Intellectual Property Office website from 2010 to 2020 as the data source,and constructs the patent management map and patent technology map of rare earth functional materials from the perspective of patent maps.From the perspective of patent application trend,patent space pattern and patent innovation subject,this paper studies the development of rare earth functional materials industry patents,and analyzes the distribution of patent technology coexistence network and identification of core patent technology from macro and micro dimensions.Quantitative scenario analysis of the patent technology development trend in the field of rare earth functional materials is conducted to obtain the patent technology development trend in the relevant fields.Finally,the study analyzes and discusses the development of patent technology in rare earth functional materials under different scenarios,aiming to provide reference opinions for technological research and development and industrial layout in the field of rare earth functional materials in China.The study findings indicatethe number of patent applications in the field of rare earth functional materials shows an overall upward trend.The spatial pattern of patent applications is concentrated mainly in the Yangtze River Delta region,with a noticeable decrease in innovation towards the west,demonstrating high spatial agglomeration.Enterprises are the most active participants in innovation,while universities and research institutions are the primary forces behind patent applications.The innovation subject cooperation network is not well integrated,with low levels of integration between industry,university,and research.The patent technology node network has loose connections and low node cohesion,with similar transfer functions but significant hierarchical differences in control function.The technical development pattern of rare earth functional materials in China suggests that the rapid development of a single technology field will drive industry-wide coordinated development,while the coordinated development of multiple technology fields will drive comprehensive industry development.The research conclusions provide a decision-making basis for promoting high-quality development in China’s rare earth functional materials industry.
