China is making efforts to reduce plastic use and achieve carbon neutrality, and is implementing the concept of low-carbon development to promote a comprehensive green transformation of the economy and society. This involves advocating for the establishment of green industries and development systems by optimizing energy structures.Manufacturing companies are also undergoing an industrial transformation by investing in environmentally friendly projects to promote product structure optimization. However, due to changes in the economic environment and the relatively backward investment management level of traditional manufacturing companies, there are increasing incidents of investment errors or failure to achieve expected returns, which can result in project failure.Investment activities are crucial for enterprise development, and it is important to solve problems that arise during project investment and improve project investment management. This article examines G Company’s investment in a plant fiber model project, analyzes common problems and causes that arise during environmental project investment, and proposes solutions and countermeasures. On the one hand, this case reflects the difficulties faced by traditional manufacturing companies in carrying out project investment,on the other hand provides optimized solutions for problems in the project investment process as a reference and guidance for other manufacturing companies investing in environmental projects. This article first elaborates on the basic concepts and purposes of project investment, reviews the research history on project investment-related theories, and introduces the theories of enterprise value evaluation, information asymmetry, time value of money, and incentive theory, laying the theoretical foundation for this article’s research.Secondly,by introducing the cases of G Company’s investment in plant fiber molding project, the problems and reasons are analyzed. In response to the problems of cash flow and expected deviation in the project investment process, ignoring environmental benefits in investment decision analysis indicators, inappropriate project cost accounting methods, project budget overruns, unsatisfactory project performance evaluation results, and weak evaluation functions, this article focuses on proposing optimization and improvement strategies for these issues, providing reference for other manufacturing companies in project investment.Among them,in the investment decision-making process,it is suggested to use big data tools and SWOT analysis to conduct in-depth market research and risk analysis, identify and evaluate environmental benefits and incorporate them into the project investment decision-making indicator system, and improve the level of project investment decision-making.In the investment implementation process,it is recommended to strengthen cost management based on the operating cost method and break-even analysis, establish special budget funds and Kanban warning mechanisms for the project, and improve cost control during the investment implementation process. In the project evaluation process,it is proposed to introduce the balanced scorecard to establish a project performance evaluation indicator system, establish and improve post-investment evaluation content and evaluation indicators, and strengthen the evaluation function of enterprise project investment after evaluation. This article for one thing offers both theoretical and practical guidance for manufacturing companies looking to invest in projects. It encourages companies to adopt a holistic approach to project investment management, taking into account all aspects of decision-making,implementation,and evaluation.By utilizing scientific management techniques to enhance project investment management mechanisms, companies can optimize their investment returns. For another, previous research has primarily concentrated on the decision-making phase of project investment, with limited exploration of the problems. This article enhances the theoretical research on the investing in projects and also expands the practical application of project investment research theory in the manufacturing industry.
