As a kind of special surface wave,spoof surface plasmon polaritons(SSPPs)can propagate along with the designed sub-wavelength periodic structure at low frequency range,such as microwave and THz frequencies.SSPPs has attracted enormous interest due to its special characters,which can be used to confine the electromagnetic field within subwavelength,enhance the nearfield,conformal transmission,low loss.During the past few years,lots of functional devices based on SSPPs had been reported with the development in this field and new physical mechanism have been demonstrated which cannot realized by traditional material.In this article,we mainly researched the filters which based on the coupling between metamaterial and SSPPs waveguide.We systemic research the coupling mechanism and modulation methods and proposed three kind of filters whose rejection band position and central frequency can be modulated in microwave frequency.The performance of proposed filters had been demonstrated by simulation and experiment.The main researches and contents are listed as follows:1)The dispersion relation,penetration depth and propagation length in metal and dielectric of surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs)have been deduced based on Maxwell equations and boundary conditions.We researched the characteristics and mechanism of SPPs and localized surface plasmon polaritons(LSPs).Finally,we studied the conditions of exciting surface plasmon polaritons in microwave frequency.2)Since that the metamaterial can be used to engineering the electromagnetic parameter,we combine the SSPPs waveguide and metamaterial to achieve a dualfrequency band rejection.The split resonator rings will interact with surface wave propagating along with waveguide.we systemic researched the influence of configuration parameter on transmission performance.We can change the dimension of split resonator rings to modulate the operating frequency range and bandwidth of the filter.which can achieve modulation the rejection band around2 GHz.The design here we proposed can be used to wideband,high efficiency transmission the electromagnetic signal.We fabricated the sample to demonstrate the performance,and the results of measurement provide the basis to further study the coupling between metamaterial and surface wave.3)We studied the relationships between the dispersion characters and the parameters of unit cell forming the SSPPs waveguide in theory and simulation.Based on above analysis,we proposed a new unit cell which can load with active device.The cutoff frequency of different mode existing in SSPPs waveguide can be modulated via changing the capacitance of active unit cell.A forbidden band generating between fundamental mode and third order mode,the change of capacitance will modulate the forbidden band.In simulation,a dynamic modulation band rejection filter based on SSPPs is designed.We had demonstrated the performance of the device in experiment by loading direct current voltage on varactor diode welding on filter,which can be modulated in real-time and continuously.The coincidence between simulation and experiment proves the well performance,and it will play an important role in future microwave system and plasmonic circuit.
