STEM education originated in the United States and has become popular around the world.STEM education is a comprehensive program of learning that focuses on a problem or project and integrates science,technology,engineering,mathematics and other disciplines to solve the problem.It proves that students trained by STEM education not only improve their performance in science,mathematics and other related subjects,but also have stronger interest in related fields.Therefore,it can be seen that integrating STEM education into science teaching in primary schools is of positive significance not only to promoting STEM education itself,but also to promoting science curriculum teaching in primary schools.In addition,the research has found that,compared with the traditional“Single” teaching period of “Scattered” and “Chaotic”,the “Unit teaching” that focuses on the integration and structure of course content is more suitable for the current educational development trends.The “Unit teaching” pays attention to the coherence of the training process,and to some extent,it fits the educational concepts of curriculum integration.In view of this,the research on the unit teaching design of elementary science based on the STEM provides a new idea for the design of science curriculum.The first part is the research introduction.It explains the background of the research from social,education,and discipline.Then,it introduces the study,including the purpose and the significance,research methods and ideas.The second part is about the definition of STEM education and Unit Teaching Design and the status quo of previous research.The third part is mainly to sort out the design principles and general process of unit teaching.We have to sort out the characteristics of STEM education in advance,and compare the differences between unit teaching and teaching periods.The fourth part investigated primary science teachers,so as to understand the implementation and difficulties of unit teaching in science subjects.Based on the theoretical guidance of unit teaching design,the light unit is selected as a case for teaching design and practice,which is the focus of research,also,provides an example for teachers.Finally,summarize and reflect on the results of the research.After going through the above process,the value of this paper lies in: providing a deeper understanding of the current primary school science teachers’ cognition of unit design and the main difficulties in it.This paper also lays out the basic steps of primary school science unit design based on the STEM education concept.Through practice,it is found that students’ attitude towards STEM concept has a positive change;moreover,the author reflects on the problems in the process of practice to lay the foundation for further research and teaching in the future.
