Atisha was invited by Byangchubvod to Tibetan in 1042 to promote Dharma.and died in Nyangdam in 1054.During the 12 years in Tibet teaching Buddhism,Atisha widely had recruited disciples and written the Bodhipathapradīpa to establish a correct practice order for Tibetan monks to practice Dharma.Atisha’s disciple Dromtonpa built Rwazheng Monastery in 1057 and founded the first denomination of Tibetan Buddhism,the Kadampa.Bden gnyis kyi vbum bzhugs so is a lecture text for the disciples of Kadampa to study the Buddhist thoughts of Atisha.In the early years of Atisha,in India,he had learned from many gurus and gradually established the Buddhist thought of Madhyamaka and Samatha-vipasyana.The connotations and relationships of Satya-dvaya,Pratitya-samutpada and Samatha-vipasyana contained in Bden gnyis kyi vbum bzhugs so set forth the characteristics of Atisha’s interpretation of the Mahayana concept in light of the development of Tibetan Buddhism.Comparison analysis of Bden gnyis kyi vbum bzhugs so and Nagarj una’s Mūlamadhyamakakārikā,Candrakirti’s Madhyamakāvatāra,Atisha’s own Bodhipathapradīpa,Satyadvayādvatāra,and Tsongkhapa’s Dgongs pa rab gsal,Sngags rim chen mo,we can see Atisha inherited the thoughts of India gurus and his thoughts were developed by Tibetan scholars.Bden gnyis kyi vbum bzhugs so quotes from the scriptures of the India gurus to explain the thought of Satya-dvaya and Samatha-vipasyana.The thought of Satya-dvaya in Bden gnyis kyi vbum bzhugs so is based on the thought of Nagarjuna and Candrakirti.Bden gnyis kyi vbum bzhugs so quotes the Bhavanakrama to explain the preliminary practices of Samatha-vipasyana.Bden gnyis kyi vbum bzhugs so also quotes the Subtle Atom theory and Eight Atom theory from Abhidharmakosa-sastra,analyze these theories in the view of Hetuvidya to break the secular persistence.Bden gnyis kyi vbum bzhugs so and Satyadvayādvatāra share the same thoughts of Satya-dvaya and further expounds the Skyes-bu gsum thoughts in Bodhipathapradīpa.Bden gnyis kyi vbum bzhugs so not only inherits the Buddhist thoughts of Nagarjuna and Candrakirti but also contains Atisha’s own unique Buddhist thought.Tsongkhapa’s thought of Pratitya-samutpada and the discussion tantric practice,and the thought of Madhyamaka,also adhered to Atisha’s method of theoretical interpretation based on Hetuvidya.
