| In the modern era of globalization,a large number of Chinese post-90 s students are opting to acquire master degree overseas. However, due to the large cultural distance, their sociocultural adaptation may be hindered severely. Therefore, the research on the sociocultural adaptation of Chinese overseas students is of great importance.Heavily immersed in the collectivistic culture, families exert significant influence on Chinese students’ overall development. But it is still under-explored whether family’s three kinds of capital have impact on their sociocultural adaptation in individualistic culture. In order to clarify the exact impacts of three kinds of family capital on Chinese post-90 s overseas master students’,a mixed research methodology is adopted in this study. With 126 participants presenting quantitative statistics and 5 interviewees providing qualitative materials,a full picture of Chinese students’ sociocultural adaptation in the UK is clearly captured.Through the analysis of collected data, this research finds that there is a significant positive correlation between family’s social capital and cultural capital and Chinese overseas students’ sociocultural adaptation.Based on the research findings, some suggestions are also devised to guide Chinese families to provide suitable familial capital and better support overseas students to adapt to the host culture appropriately and effectively. |
