| Since the Trump administration came into office, the political polarization of the United States has further intensified and shown the feature of "externalization".The foreign policy also reflects the new adjustment trend. The core research problem of this thesis is how the domestic political polarization in the United States affects the change of Trump’s foreign policy, especially the climate and energy policy. The research focus of this thesis is the specific way that political polarization affects climate and energy policy in the United States.Based on this, this thesis takes the social coalition theory as the theoretical framework to explore the internal logic of foreign policy during the Trump administration.Through empirical analysis, the author of this thesis concludes that globalization and economic inequality caused by race, culture, class conflicts, such as highly "polarized" partisan struggle in foreign policy and domestic public opinion show a growing disparity, the different domestic politics-is reshaping the U.S.national interests, social interests on Trump administration’s foreign policy put forward different requirements. The main interest of Trump’s social coalitions(including different voters and interest groups)in foreign policy is to change the adverse impact of globalization on them.It is hoped that the United States will reduce its involvement in overseas affairs, reducing its foreign strategic costs, getting rid of constraints from the international community, and give priority to the real economic interests of the United States when dealing with the outside world. Therefore, out of the consideration of "political rationality",Trump takes"America first" as the core foreign political goal.It emphasizes domestic economic interests and shows the color of "neo-isolationism" in concrete practice. It is committed to "externalizing" domestic conflicts by transferring costs and responsibilities.Catalyzed by political polarization,Trump’s foreign policy presents complexity and contradiction, which to some extent weakens the international image of the United States and its leading position on the international stage, but also brings severe challenges to the international community. |
