In the information era,the use of mobile phone has become a habit.The first generation of migrant workers,as the lower class of information,are also actively learning new technologies,and more and more people are participating in the identity writing which was monopolized by the elite class.Social media is a new stage for the public to display themselves,by which users can create the information they want to convey to others.This paper takes the first generation of migrant workers as the research object,and uses the methods of content analysis and in-depth interview to discuss their use of social media and self-presentation.Based on Goffman’s self-presentation theory,this paper analyzes the posting of social media and extracts the themes and forms the first generation of migrant workers most often share on social media.The in-depth interview were conducted to dig into their self-presentation strategies,behavioral characteristics and influencing factors.Self-presentation is an overall dynamic process.Social media as the main stage of presentation,the setting of stage,content selection and role type are all affecting individual performance.The self-presentation stage of the first generation of migrant workers is We Chat and the Tiktok.Although they use their initial using time is obviously lagging behind,they are also actively participating network practice in their own way,which also reflects the group’s identity characteristics.Frequent mobility makes their self-presentation full of the emotion of hometown and working places,and the vertical connection between the past and present.It is this process that makes them unconsciously practice the struggle against identity,re-construct and interpret the group from the perspective of the themselves.The self-presentation of the first generation of migrant workers in cyberspace is closely related to their life course.The group characteristics,interaction with others and individual initiative in a certain space and time jointly determine the individual’s life path,and thus affect the use of mobile phone and self-presentation.
