With the continuous development of globalization,the society needs more and more talents with English ability.As an important form of language output,English writing ability is one of the core skills in English writing teaching,which has been paid more and more attention by foreign language and educational experts.Scholars at home and abroad have studied college English writing from different aspects,but researches on the combination of iWrite Automatic Writing Evaluation System(AWES)and writing strategies have just been started to conduct.Therefore,based on Input Hypothesis,Output Hypothesis,Feedback Theory and Interaction Hypothesis,this study intends to explore the application of writing strategies based on iWrite AWES,the purpose of this study is to answer the following three questions: 1)Can students consciously use writing strategies when writing a composition? 2)Are the students able to improve their writing ability by using writing strategies based on iWrite AWES? 3)Which strategies based on iWrite AWES are more effective in process of the writing?The subjects of this study were 70 sophomores in two parallel classes of nonEnglish majors at Shenyang Normal University,and one class was randomly selected as the experimental class for twelve weeks’ experimental teaching.In the experimental class,the writing strategies based on the iWrite AWES were taught,while the control class was taught in the traditional teaching model.Before the teaching experiment,pre-questionnaires and pre-tests were conducted in both classes,and post-tests were administered in both classes after the one-semester experiment,while post-questionnaires and interviews were conducted in the experimental class,in which the test results were statistically analyzed by SPSS21.0.The results of the study show: 1)Most of students cannot use writing strategies consciously in writing process before the experiment and their overall level of using writing strategies is relatively low.After the experiment,students are able to use writing strategies consciously in the process of writing,and the level of using writing strategies generally improved.2)The application of writing strategies based on iWrite AWES can improve students’ writing ability.3)The social and compensatory strategies,based on iWrite AWES are more effective in students’ writing.This study is to explore the application of writing strategies based on the iWrite AWES,aiming to enable teachers and students to make full use of the modern online teaching platform to maximize the teaching effect of teachers’ teaching and students’ learning in college English writing teaching,and to effectively improve students’ English writing ability.
