A Report On The Translation Of The Parts Of X Automobile Maintenance Manual

The automobile maintenance manual is an important part of automotive texts,which contains the main information of automobile terms,operating and maintenance.In order to product sales services,companies need to translate automobile maintenance manual to ensure that the translation is accurate and standardized,concise and easy to understand,so that terminal users can understand related automobile maintenance instructions and provide them with better maintenance and after-sales service.The report excerpts four parts from X Brand Automobile Maintenance Manual,including power output module assembly,charger,vehicle controller and approaching vehicle sound for pedestrians(VSP)maintenance.According to the characteristics of this text,translator makes use of Nida’s functional equivalence translation theory to guide this project,does research methods such as literature,comparison and case method and analyzes the translation strategy from the level of words,sentences,and discourses.It aims to combine translation theory with practice,select appropriate translation strategies,and expand the application of functional equivalence except literature.The report covers five chapters.The first chapter is the task description,including the introduction of the project,research significance and structure.Chapter two is the translation process,including the selection of translation tools,the analysis of the characteristics of the source text;understanding,shifting and expression of the source text while translation;quality control,typesetting and polishing up after translation.The third chapter explains the theoretical framework,including the introduction and application of functional equivalence theory.The fourth chapter is case study,which analyzes translation strategies from words,sentences,and discourses.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,including the translator’s findings,limitations and suggestions.Translator uses Nida’s functional equivalence theory to guide the translation of automotive technical maintenance texts,and applies translation strategies such as literal translation,free translation,combination,division,addition,and omission to make the target language translation better understood and accepted so as to realize equivalent information and communicative function.It offers some references for the translation of automobile maintenance manual in the future.
