| Under the background of the "going global" of Chinese culture, opera culture is a window to show the charm of Chinese culture to the world. The translation and introduction of opera scripts is one of the important ways of cross-cultural communication of Chinese operas.Qinqiang Opera, originated in ancient Shaanxi and Gansu,is one of the oldest operas of the Han ethnic group in China. It has a great popularity in northwest provinces and a profound impact on other local operas. And it has been approved by the State Council to be included in the national intangible cultural heritage list.Qinqiang Opera is one of the important carriers of spreading folk culture. The first step to make it spread effectively is to translate the scripts,Susan Bassnett,a representative scholar of cultural translation, points out that translation is a kind of cultural exchange, and its nature is cross-cultural information transmission. This is in line with the purpose of Qinqiang Opera translation:to spread the excellent Chinese opera culture and to promote the cultural exchange between China and the west. Therefore, the script translation of Qinqiang Opera is mainly based on the theory of cultural translation. This thesis selects the script of Wudianpo(first half and the first chapter of the second half),a traditional Qinqiang Opera,as the source text, performing the translation practice under the guidance of cultural translation theory, and finally presents the research content in the form of practice report. The main contents of this practice report include:Firstly, discussing how to translate the culture loaded words under the condition that there is a lack of cultural counterpart between Chinese and English;Secondly, how should the translator convey the background information of the characters involved in a large number of ancient historical allusions in the script? Then, how does the translator convey the cultural information implied in the form of address with ancient Chinese characteristics in the dialogues? Finally, how does the translator deal with the format of Qiyan style(same number of words in sentences)?Based on the in-depth analysis of the above translation problems, the author finds that the cultural translation theory plays a very good guiding role. The problems encountered in this translation practice have been well solved under the guidance of it,and the purpose of cultural communication has been achieved. For the above problems,"foreignization" is adopted to value the source language, supplemented with "domestication" for seeking common ground.Other strategies include "cultural functional equivalence" and "the reproduction of contents and language style".This translation practice is a useful supplement to the current research field of Qinqiang Opera translation, and to some extent improves the fact that there are few studies on the translation of Qinqiang Opera and few English versions of it.As a well-known classic play, the script translation of Wudianpo will undoubtedly be of great significance to the spread of traditional culture and the protection of excellent local culture. |
