Research On The Construction Of Female Images In Chinese Mainstream Movies Since The New Century

Since the thriving development of film as an artistic expression form,reviewing the history of the development of Chinese films,it can be easily seen that female image has continuously played an awkwardly auxiliary role.Despite a lot of females starred in many films,they lack the opportunities to express themselves and receive scarce attention.With the advent of the new century,inspired by the literary creation policy of "promoting the main theme and advocating diversification",China’s film industry has regained its momentum.At the same time,female image shaping in films has also been revived,generating a large number of excellent films and typical female images.Changes in social history and cultural trends influence the values formation of female characters,while social psychology and social consciousness are reflected from the image on the screen,endowing the female image in mainstream movies with the spirit of the times and meaning the national image.With the release of mainstream films such as "Operation Red Sea","Wolf Warrior","The Captain","My People,My Country",and "Leap",several very typical female images were successfully depicted with great significance in shaping China’s national image.The first part of this paper analyzes the definition of mainstream films and sorts out the development process,and on this basis,this paper draws the different features of mainstream films in different periods;the second part of this paper sorts out the evolution process of female image change through the studies of the female characters in mainstream Chinese films since the new century.It can be seen that with the continuous changes and progress of social ideology,we can deeply understand the value judgments of the current era on social gender,consumption tendency and other aspects.In the third part,under the background of national image building,it can be concluded that it is of long-term significant to establish good female image in expressing China’s firm stand and attitude in the international community.With the constant development of mainstream films,the emergence of Chinese female images can strongly confront against the Western discourse hegemony in the context of cross-cultural communication with the intertwined Orientalism represented by Hollywood and male vision.In the conclusion part,the author conducts an in-depth analysis of the situation of modern women in society and in films,and proposes recommendations according to existing problems.The above research is expected to provide some thoughts for the future development of mainstream films and the creation of female images.
