This paper is a practical report on C-E translation.A Brief History of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Mianyang(Chapter 3)is selected as the translation material.Commissioned by supervisor,the author took part in the translation project of A Brief History of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Mianyang(Chapter 3).The main purpose of this project is to spread Traditional Chinese Medicine culture to the world.Traditional Chinese Medicine culture is an important part of the broad and profound traditional culture of the Chinese nation.On October 1,2018,the World Health Organization for the first time included Traditional Chinese Medicine in its globally influential medical program,which shows the important position of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the world.The author has the responsibility and obligation to translate and introduce the materials about Traditional Chinese Medicine culture to the world.The source text material covers the famous doctors and their medical works of Mianyang in the past dynasties,and the content is very comprehensive.Readers can understand the Traditional Chinese Medicine culture in detail.Based on Nida’s functional equivalence theory,the author has finished this translation practice and then has written this practice report on C-E translation.According to Nida’s functional equivalence theory,in order to achieve lexical equivalence,syntactic equivalence,textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence to the greatest extent in the process of translation,the author discusses different translation strategies and methods,mainly using amplification,omission,liberal translation,splitting translation,linear translation and sentence restructuring.The use of these translation strategies and methods can make the target text better conform to the expression of the target language and shorten the distance between the target language readers and the author of the source text.This translation practice report mainly describes the basic situation of the translation project,the translation process,the case analysis under the guidance of functional equivalence theory and the conclusion of the report.This report gives a very detailed description of the difficulties and solutions in this translation practice,hoping to provide some reference and help for similar translation practice in the future.
