| This is a practice report on the Chinese-English translation of some chapters in a book named Ancient Cities and Towns in China which was published by Bashu Publishing House.The book introduces the geographical locations,folk culture,historical stories and development of some ancient cities and towns in Sichuan and the translation of the book will promote the popularization of ancient cities and towns in Sichuan and the spread of Sichuan traditional culture.This report includes the introduction of the translation project,translation process,guiding theory,case study and translation project assessments and the conclusion.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence theory,the translator completes the translation and analyzes proper translation methods to achieve functional equivalence between source text and target text from the lexical level and syntactic level.Structure-borrowing,paraphrasing,transliteration and annotation are used to achieve functional equivalence on the lexical level;Inversion,combination and conversion of voice are used to realize functional equivalence on the syntactic level.By using these translation methods,target langue readers’ reading experience is essentially the same with that of the source language readers.The author hopes this translation exploration and practice under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence theory can provide reference for the translation practice of similar texts. |
