A Study Of The Annotation And Examples Provided Of Pleco,an Foreign Oriented Bilingual Chinese Electric Dictionary

With the full popularity of the Internet and smartphones,Chinese learning software relying on various media terminal servers has emerged in large numbers,which has to a certain extent alleviated the lack of learning resources or the unmet individual needs of learners.In order to better understand the situation related to foreign oriented bilingual Chinese electric dictionaries.This paper takes "Pleco",one of the most popular foreign oriented bilingual Chinese electric dictionaries,as the object of study through a large number of surveys and statistics,and focuses on its word definitions and examples.Firstly,we examine the usage and main functions of "Pleco".Secondly,25 words were randomly selected from the "Chinese Proficiency Vocabulary and Chinese Character Level Syllabus" and searched by "Pleco" one by one.We found that "Pleco" has obvious deficiencies in interpretation,mainly in the form of single interpretation,over-reliance on English,inappropriate labeling of word categories,incomplete labeling of auxiliary interpretation information,confusing arrangement of meaning items,and unreasonable inclusion of some contents.At the same time,we found that the dictionary also has some obvious problems in the "examples" section,such as large differences in the number of examples,confusing arrangement of examples,inappropriate Chinese and English forms and labels,inappropriate length of examples,too many invalid examples,too difficult examples,etc.,resulting in some examples seriously lacking contextual information,lacking practicality,and lacking in the presentation of grammatical content.The problems of lack of contextual information,lack of practicality,lack of grammatical content of the example sentences,and deviation of the content of the example sentences in English and Chinese.Finally,on the basis of detailed examination and analysis,this paper puts forward some suggestions for improving the above problems in order to provide some reference information for users and developers and promote the development of outward-looking Chinese dictionaries.
