A Report On The Translation Of Marketing Text For Lighting Enterprise

Since the reform and opening up,my country has paid more and more attention to external propaganda and exchanges with other countries.Compared with traditional literary translation,practical style translation has gradually gained more attention from scholars.However,because of the differences in language and culture between Chinese and English,translators need to attach great importance to the quality of practical translation,so as to improve the readability of the translation and the acceptability of the original text by Western readers.This report describes the author’s four-month marketing text translation practice experience at Goodlux Lighting Co.,Ltd.The number of characters in the original texts of the project is about 13,000,and the number of characters in the translation is about 15,000.These texts have never been translated before.The original texts mainly involve the introduction of customized lighting products and related procurement suggestions,aiming to provide customers with convenience and assistance in procurement.When translating,on the basis of ensuring that the translated information is faithful and grammatically correct,the translator needs to use some translation methods to improve reader acceptability.In terms of content,the original text belongs to product-based practical text,with strong professionalism.The use of professional terms such as lamps and engineering is extensive,and the lack of product-related background knowledge poses challenges to translation;in terms of text type,according to Newmark’s text typology,the original text focuses more on informative description and supplemented by vocative feature.The former aims to convey specific information of custom lighting,while the latter,oriented by readers and acceptance,paying more attention to the vocative effect of the text.Therefore,how to effectively convey the original information to the readers based on the correct understanding of the original content has become the most important task of a translator.Therefore,the author introduces the concept of parallel text,regards parallel text as an important auxiliary tool in the translation process,analyzes examples from the perspectives of comprehension and expression,and explores the impact of parallel text on translation quality during the translation process.The author hopes that this report can provide a certain reference for the translation research work of practical styles,so that the practical translation will receive further attention and development,and its overall translation quality will be effectively improved.
