The Christianization of the Roman Empire from the 4th to the 6th century AD is a landmark event in the process of western civilization,and the decline of classical landscape and the rise of Christian landscape in the city of Rome is one of the most remarkable changes in this period.This dramatic change in the different cultural background of classical writers and Christian writers in the text has a very different presentation and description.In the most representative images or places of the Roman city,such as the goddess Roma,Capitoline Hill,Tiber,and the Aurelius Walls,there are rich historical memories,it is also the focus of the polytheistic writers and Christian writers in late antiquity.This thesis takes the image of Rome in the works of late antiquity as the object of study,trying to explore the ideas and cultural changes behind the changes in urban landscape.Under the guidance of this research goal,this article mainly launches the elaboration by three chapters: The first chapter mainly discusses the different images of goddess in the works of polytheistic and Christian writers in late antiquity,and the changes of city,culture and religion behind them.In second chapter,the origin and development of polytheistic historical memory and Christian historical memory of the iconic urban landscapes of Capitoline Hill,Aurelian Walls and Tiber are discussed,and explore the different cultural traditions they present.The third chapter mainly investigates the Christianization of Roman city in late antiquity,focusing on how Pope Damasus and Pope Leo used the deeds of apostolic martyrdom and religious rituals to expand the Christian terrain of the city of Rome,as well as the image of Rome in the works of medieval historian.By investigating polytheism and Christian writings in this period of Rome,on the one hand,we can explore the city landscape of the origin and development of Christianity and polytheism memory,On the other hand,from the perspective of cultural history and urban history,we can trace the transformation of the city of Rome from the caput mundi which is full of classical cultural elements into a Christian holy city during this period.
