With the further expansion of the influence of Buddhism in the central plains,a wave of westbound dharma seeking gradually arose among the monks.During this process,the monks compiled books of what they had seen and heard along the way.The monks traveled the same route,and their destination was India.Aiming at this group with a sense of cultural identity,this paper makes a comprehensive study of the journey records of ancient Chinese monks in the western regions to make them systematic.The focus of this paper is the animal records in the western regions of ancient Chinese monks.The book includes The Travels of Fah-Hian,The Mission of Sung-Yun,The Great Tang Dynasty Record of the Western Regions and On HuiChao’s Travels to India.With the help of animal records in the vision of monks and travelers,this paper tries to find out the interaction between humans and animals in the western regions.And analyzes the differences in animal records between monks and travelers as well as the common thoughts reflected by them,so as to provide some inspiration and reference for us to pay more attention to ecology and protect nature.The thesis mainly includes the following aspects:The first part is an introduction,summarizing the research significance and methods of this article,and combing the current status of animal research in the monks’ travel to the West.The second part explains the background of the monks’ travel records in the Western Regions,and briefly analyzes the reasons for the upsurge in taking west travel.The third part sorts out all kinds of animal records,further sorts out and summarizes the social values embodied by animals.And reflects the interaction between animals and humans.The fourth part discusses the differences in the records of animals by different monks and walkers,and specifically analyzes the deep-seated causes of the differences.The fifth part takes animal records as the starting point,thinking about the common manifestation of the thoughts and emotions of the walkers.The conclusion summarizes the full text and calls for more attention to natural ecology.
