| The Oriental Daily Express was founded and edited by exiles from Northeast China with the support of Zhang Xueliang after the September 18th Incident.It paid attention to reporting the news of Northeast China and advocated the Anti-Japanese struggle and the recapture of Northeast China.The literary supplements of the Oriental Daily Express has gathered writers who are mainly young people in exile from Northeast China.It has published a large number of literary works.Li Huiying,Bai Xiaoguang(Majia),Heiding,Shi Guang,Li Manlin and other northeast writers had published their works in the newspaper.This paper sorts out the basic situation of the the Oriental Daily Express;analyzes and sum up the standpoint and the works’common subject matter of the literary supplements;analyzes the characteristics of literary writing of youth in exile from Northeast China,the main writer group of the literary supplements,and looks at the situation,psychology,thoughts and feelings of them;and discovers and proofreads the lost works of Li Huiying,Bai Xiaoguang and Heiding.The first chapter sorts out the basic situation of the Oriental Daily Express.The newspaper was founded on December 5,1932,and stopped publication after the July 7th Incident in 1937.It was founded with the support of Zhang Xueliang,which can be said to be Zhang Xueliang’s mouthpiece.As the only newspaper founded by northeasterners in Peiping,it was a rare voice channel for the northeasterners in Peiping.Edgar Snow,the famous American journalist,had gone to the Soviet Area of Northern Shaanxi for an interview in 1936.Wang Fushi,the son of Wang zhuoran,the president of the newspaper,organized the translation of Snow’s interview manuscript,which was published secretly after being printed by the printing office of the Oriental Daily Express.The second chapter discusses the standpoint of the literary supplements and the common subject matter of its published works.After adjustment,the literary supplements insisted on the literary pursuit based on the times,and advocates that literary works should reflect the times and writers should shoulder their own mission.The works published in the literary supplements had formed several common subject matter:the life,thoughts and feelings of the exiled youth from Northeast China;the Anti-Japanese stories of the army of volunteers and the people in Northeast China;the miserable life of the people in Northeast China under the rule of Puppet Manchukuo;the memories of hometown;and paying attention to the masses.The third chapter analyzes the characteristics of the works published in the literary supplements,and the situation and psychology of the youth in exile from Northeast China.The depression and sentimentality of the exiled youth was the result of the superimposition of the sentimentality inherent in the literary youth and the situation of the hometown’s ruin.The works about Anti-Japanese struggle in Northeast China showed obvious emotional catharsis and the mind of revenge;In art,because of the lack of realistic materials and life experience,there were some ways to leave blank in the process of struggle and write through imagination;In the aesthetic orientation,as young intellectual writers,they showed a simple and vigorous aesthetic orientation of opposing themselves and resorted to the primitive forces of nature.All of these reflected the pain,depression,desire,weakness and bewilderment of the youth in exile.As the editor of the literary supplements,Shi Guang had a more in-depth thinking about the Anti-Japanese struggle and literature.Through his own work,he had a dialogue with these works full of passion and imagination.The fourth chapter sorts out and analyzes the works of Li Huiying,Bai Xiaoguang,heiding and Zhang Henshui,and copy out and proofread their lost works in the appendix. |
