| Creativity and critical thinking as higher order skills have become increasingly significant in recent years.In the 13th National Peoples’ Congress,Premier Li Keqiang has mentioned innovation for 47 times in his government work report.Besides,critical thinking skill is of great importance to the cultivation of analytical thinking.This report is based on the translation practice of the book,Fostering Students’Creativity and Critical Thinking,edited by Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development(OECD).There is no Chinese version domestically and the translator takes charge of the translation of chapter one and chapter two which provide guidance for teachers and policy makers on how to cultivate those skills in school.The book contains educational terms,abbreviation,various sentence structures,complex logic and a certain degree of formality in language.It focuses on the expression of facts and statements,which shows typical features of informative text.Thus,guided by Newmark’s communicative translation theory,the translator emphasizes on the accuracy and readability of the translation.The translation of the book is not only conducive to broadening international perspectives of Chinese readers on creativity and critical thinking,but also to providing more experiences on the E-C translation of educational text.The report includes four chapters.Chapter one includes an introduction to background information and translation task.Chapter two introduces preparation work including a stylistic analysis and the translation theory used in modification.Chapter three discusses difficulties in translation of words and of sentences as well as the translation methods adopted to solve them.Chapter four includes a summary,major findings and limitations of the report. |
