Oil painting has developed greatly in the process of the introduction of Western learning to the East.Composition,color and technique are becoming more and more diversified.Especially in recent years,the image oil painting with obvious characteristics makes people feel the charm of Chinese oil painting.In the traditional Chinese painting,the freehand brushwork,which integrates the spirit of Confucianism,Taoism and Buddhism,has very national characteristics.Among them,the freehand brushwork,mainly based on the rich changes of black and white gray and the interpretation of brushwork,is a typical Chinese painting.Chinese oil painters have found a good match between oil painting and ink freehand brushwork,and formed a new form of oil painting focusing on black and white gray composition,combining with the abstract and composition concepts of Western oil painting.The composition of black and white gray is in line with the aesthetic pursuit of Chinese aesthetic culture,exploring the painting creation style of black and white gray composition,mining the artistic value of black and white gray composition,inspiring their own creative inspiration,looking for a more suitable direction for their own creation,so as to break through the objective representation of relying on natural scenery and expand the creative thinking is the fundamental of this paper.This paper starts from its own creative research and practice,the first part introduces why the relationship between black and white gray is the main composition of the creation;the second part explains the understanding of the concept of black and white gray and the understanding of the composition of the picture;The third part is about the aesthetic of black and white gray composition in contemporary oil painting combined with the works of famous artists;the fourth part is about the understanding and application of black and white gray composition combined with their own creative exploration.
