Green Total Factor Productivity(GTFP)is regarded as an important source of promoting regional development and optimizing industrial structure. It is also an important symbol of the improvement of regional economic development quality, technological progress and efficiency. With the development of economic theories and methods,GTFP can more scientifically reflect the quality of regional economic development under the rigid constraint of current environmental resources. This paper discusses the influence mechanism of China’s Green Total Factor Productivity on regional development under environmental regulation by combining theoretical analysis with empirical study.First,I adopt the non-radial and non-angular SBM efficiency measurement model and the ML productivity index to measure the Green Total Factor Productivity of 30 provinces and autonomous regions in China from 2000 to 2016.I also analyze the general condition and regional differences of Green Total Factor Productivity in China.Secondly, the Panel Threshold Model is constructed from an overall perspective to study the asymmetric impact of different types of environmental regulations on China’s Green Total Factor Productivity.Furthermore,I deeply study the asymmetric effects of Green Total Factor Productivity in different regional spaces from the perspective of regional differences. Finally,I put forward targeted policy recommendations based on the above theoretical analysis and empirical research results, and summarize the shortcomings of the study. The main conclusions are as follows: first, the Green Total Factor Productivity(GTFP)of 30 provinces in China remains rising trend, but there exist regional differences.Secondly, different types of environmental regulations have asymmetric effects on Green Total Factor Productivity, and command-control environmental regulations have little impact on China’s GTFP as a whole. The relationship of market-driven and voluntary-agreed environment regulations and GTFP is U shape.Third, there are regional differences in the impact of different environmental regulations on GTFP.In the eastern region, the market-driven and voluntary-agreed environment regulations with medium intensity can effectively promote the development of GTFP.In the western region,command-and-control environmental regulation with low intensity and market-driven environmental regulation with medium intensity have the greatest impact on Green Total Factor Productivity. In the central region,command-and-control environmental regulation with low intensity、market-driven environmental regulation with medium intensity and voluntary-agreed environmental regulation have a positive impact on Green Total Factor Productivity.Fourthly, technical innovation level and energy structure has a positive effect on GTFP,and foreign investment can promote the development of Green Total Factor Productivity in central and western regions. However,in the eastern region, due to the open economic and market environment, the inflow of foreign investment will occupy a certain market share, increase market competition, reduce the economic returns of enterprises, and have a negative impact on GTFP.
