| The high demand for petroleum products has triggered an increase in production, which in turn has increased concerns about the potential calamities associated with petroleum mishaps.Several materials are being considered to lessen these environmental influences. In this research,a simple and low-cost technique of coating melamine sponge with a mixture of Octadecyltrichlorosilane and Toluene to yield a reusable sorbent with super-hydrophobic and oleophilic features was done.To test for the effectiveness of this fabrication method, test of morphology, contact angle, density, selectivity, fluctuating capacity, sorption capacity, sorption rate, recovery efficiency, reusability and oil droplet sizes were performed. The foremost outcomes indicated higher homogeneity in the coating, but the absorption capacity of the modified sponge for petroleum products increases as the density of the fraction reduces.Low density products have higher absorption capacities and absorption rates than higher density products. In addition, the fabricated melamine sponge also presented high selectivity, oil recovery efficiency of about 85% and a good fluctuating capacity. |
