In this study,high density polyethylene(HDPE)and polypropylene(PP)were used as resin matrix and attapulgite(AT)was used as inorganic flame retardant.The addition of modified attapulgite not only improves the mechanical properties of the material,but also reduces the material cost and increases the flame retardant effect.Firstly,magnesium hydroxide(MH)and aluminum hydroxide(ATH)nanoparticles were deposited on the surface of rough-selected attapulgite by heterogeneous deposition method,and then the surface modified inorganic nano filler attapulgite(MAT)was obtained by using cell dispersion combined with spray drying technology.The AT before and after modification was tested and analyzed by SEM and particle size distribution tester.The results showed that the particle size of modified attapulgite decreased significantly and was distributed uniformly and concentrated in 1-10 um.Composite materials were obtained by mixing MAT with matrix or other inorganic fillers.SEM,LOI and other methods were used to characterize the properties of the composite materials.At the same time,the flame retardant performance has been improved to a certain extent.Considering the strength and flame retardant performance requirements of composite pipe materials,MAT is combined with long glass fiber(LG)and short glass fiber(SG)to improve the strength of the material while giving play to MAT’s toughness and achieve better flame retardant effect by increasing the filling ratio.The study shows that 5% and 15% of the additive amount can make LG composite and SG composite achieve good mechanical properties,but the best flame retardant effect needs 20% of the MAT amount.Development of multi-variety pipe composites by changing polymer matrix materials.MAT,ATH,MH,SG and other inorganic fillers were used to fill PP,and the effects of different fillers on mechanical properties,thermal properties,carbon residue microstructure and other flame retardant properties of composite materials were explored.The results show that the toughness and tensile strength of the composite with MH are better than that of the ATH with the same filling amount,but the machining performance of the ATH composite is better than that of the former.Both of them can improve the flame retardancy of the material,but the fuction of improve the tensile strength of the material is not very well.MAT and several other inorganic fillers used together will reduce the tensile strength of the composite material,but improve its toughness,heat resistance and processing properties.MAT can synergize with other fillers to increase the flame retardant effect.
