Time of arrival (ToA) estimation of an RF signal is integral to various types of emitter location methods, diagnostic medical systems, as well as astronomical, geological and hydrological signal analysis. The ability to estimate ToA of a signal depends on various factors such as the signal characteristics (bandwidth, power, frequency), as well as on the RF channel characteristics. One impediment frequently found in RF channels is multipath interference. This thesis studies various ToA estimation schemes found in the recent literature (some designed to mitigate multipath interference and some not) and provides the results of simulation studies of these methods in the presence of multipath interference.
