Abstract/Summary:
The behavior of the nonlinear optical loop mirror with feedback with high birefringence fiber in the loop is examined. It was found that the use of a birefringent fiber in the loop will affect the output dynamics of the system. The output bistable and chaotic behaviour of the power is shown to rely on the polarization state of the input beam. The output polarization of the system is shown to also exhibit bistable and chaotic behavior for a fixed input polarization state. The use of a high birefringence fiber in the loop simplifies the propagation equations of the system and offers a measure of control of the nonlinear optical loop mirror with feedback, allowing the output bistable and chaotic behavior to be modified by adding a polarization controller to the input of the device.
