Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs)with mobile sinks can be used for data collection and data query.By tracking and recording the location information of the mobile sink, sensor data that collected by the static sensors can be sent to the station.Based on the strategy of the data collection,it can be divided into two categories. One of the strategies is data source uploading the data packets actively, the other one is mobile sinks broadcasting data query to collecting the data. This paper proposes two kinds of data collection protocol which are based on the two strategies. One of the protocols is Detour-Aware Mobile Sink Tracking algorithm(DAMST),in DAMST,sink sends data query to the data source and collects the data.DAMST can avoid the detour via analysis of movement angle changes of mobile sinks,so sink can collect data in a low-overhead and energy efficient way.In DAMST,while a mobile sink passes through an interesting region,it appoints a specific node as a region agent to collect information of the whole region, and records nodes near or on its trajectory as footprints(footprints are the sensors that near to the mobile sink's trajectory, they are used to record the trajectory of mobile sink).Once sink needs information from the region agent in a future time it will construct an energy efficient path from the region agent to itself by calculating its own movement angles according to the footprints,as well as getting rid of detours by analyzing these movement angles. The other protocol is CBDCR(Clue Based Data Collection Routing Protocol). In CBDCR,data source uploads the data to sink actively.Mobile sink moves randomly, during which it only broadcasts its location messages(location messages are used to forward the location information of mobile sink)by limited hops instead of the whole network. The nodes getting these messages are called watchers who can obtain the upstream or downstream relations and infer the hop(s)from them to the mobile sink, and then a watcher stores this information as a “clue” to the location of mobile sink for data forwarding(clues are used to guide data packets where is mobile sink). As the movement of the mobile sink, more and more nodes have clues of the mobile sink, and so a sensing data can be efficiently forwarded to the mobile sink according to these clues. In this paper, each algorithm are simulated in OMNeT++,we also analysis the performance of each protocol,we also make a simple introduction of the OMNeT++.At the end of this paper,we do a summary of the research work.In addition, potential research direction for WSNs with multiple mobile sinks of data collection is discussed.
