| From the perspective of Dynamic Systems Theory, this study investigates the oral development of intermediate and advanced Chinese learners in non-target language environments. The research questions in this paper are as follows: 1.What are the development trajectories of six Chinese learners’ oral proficiency in non-target language environments? Are there regular patterns and dynamic developmental patterns? 2.What is the relationship among six Chinese learners’ CAF(complexity, accuracy, fluency)? Is there any dynamic change pattern of the relationship among CAF?By observing the development trajectories of CAF of six Chinese learners in nine months, the following conclusions are drawn: firstly, most Chinese learners have made progress in the aspect of phonetic accuracy.Secondly, the initial value has an important influence on the development of dynamic system. In addition, the development of each learner’s oral proficiency varies greatly, and the differences demonstrated by different learners reflects the necessity of the case study. Moreover, this study summarizes five dynamic developmental patterns of Chinese learners: near-linear pattern;ascending in curve pattern;descending in curve pattern;peaks/valleys pattern and compound pattern. These dynamic patterns embody two kinds of change in Dynamic Systems Theory: dynamic stability and dynamic variability, among which the first four patterns embody dynamic stability, while the fifth mode embodies both dynamic stability and dynamic variability. The relationships among learners’ CAF show that the dimensions are dynamic and not static.According to the dynamic relationship of CAF,three patterns have been summarized. They are zero change dynamic pattern, regular change dynamic pattern and irregular change dynamic pattern. |
