With the popularity of smartphones, the impact of smartphone addiction on college students’ physical and psychological aspects(sleep disorders, work delays, depression, anxiety and loneliness i.e.)have gradually become the focus of many researchers, and also a series of results have been achieved. However,it is impossible for individuals to completely separate themselves from smart phones. Therefore, the researchers have studied it from multiple perspectives and found that parenting style is an important environmental factor affecting smartphone addiction. However, little is known about the mediating mechanism of how parenting style impact smartphone addiction.Based on the Theory of Problem Behaviors,Self-adjusting Theory, the Traits View of Social Cognition and previous research, virtue can be regarded as individual characteristics, subjective well-being as an individual experience, both of which can be considered as mediating variable between parenting style(environment)and smartphone addiction(behavior). Therefore, from the perspective of positive psychology, this study investigated the sequential mediating effect of virtue and subjective well-being on the influence of parenting style on college students’ smartphone addiction. In this study,a total of 700 college students in Changsha were selected by convenient sampling method.Research tools include the smartphone addiction scale compiled by Su Shuang and Liu Qinxue et al.(2014),the simplified parenting style scale revised by the Jiang jiang et al.(2010),the Chinese strengths questionnaire compiled by Zhang Yonghong et al.(2014),and Ji Nan and Li Yousui(2006)compiled a subjective well-being scale and a demographic background data questionnaire.Using SPSS24.0 and Process to analyze the data,it’s found that the relationship between positive parenting style and smartphone addiction was not significant, while the relationship between negative parenting style and smartphone addiction was significant. After the mediating effect analysis,it’s found that:(1)the direct predictive effect of positive parenting style on smartphone addiction was not significant;but the mediating role of willpower virtue and subjective well-being wassignificant,as well as the mediating role of virtue sequence;(2)the direct predictive effect of negative parenting style on smartphone addiction was significant, only the mediating effect of subjective well-being and the sequence mediating effect of relationship virtue and subjective well-being were significant; The mediating role of virtue including affinity virtue, vitality virtue, and willpower virtue, the sequence mediation of vitality virtue and subjective well-being,the sequence mediation of conscientiousness virtue and subjective well-being were not significant. Finally, this study has the following conclusions:(1)Positive parenting style cannot directly affect smartphone addiction, but it indirectly affects smartphone addiction by affecting individual affinity virtues, virtual virtues, willpower virtues and subjective well-being;(2)Negative parenting style can not only directly affect smartphone addiction, but also indirectly affect smartphone addiction by affecting individual affinity virtues and subjective well-being;Parents’ negative parenting style will directly affect their children’s degree of smartphone addiction;and adopting positive parenting styles to cultivate virtues and improve subjective well-being can effectively prevent the occurrence of smartphone addiction. In conclusion,it is more crucial to avoid adopting negative parenting styles than to adopt positive parenting styles to cultivate virtues and enhance subjective well-being to prevent the occurrence of smartphone addiction.
