An Action Research On Reading Teaching Design Based On The Key Competencies Of English Subject In Senior High School

The revised National English Curriculum Standards of Senior High School advocates EFL teachers to practice the view of activity-based English learning so as to facilitate the effective formation of students’ key competencies of English subject.As a high school English teacher,the author deeply feels that there is a big gap between the requirements of the revised curriculum standards and her own teaching level.In order to meet the requirements of the course standard,the author tries to correct the problems existing in the design of the reading teaching in English class at school through action research,and effectively improve the students’ learning effectiveness and her own teaching quality.This gesture can provide an empirical basis and empirical reference for the practicing of revision of the curriculum standard.Through the leading research before the action research,the author has the following research conclusions on teaching materials,students and teachers themselves:(1)Teachers have the following problems in English reading teaching design: 1.Text interpretation is not deep enough,especially in-depth text and beyond text interpretation is not enough.2.The setting of learning objectives lays too much stress on students’ learning and understanding ability.3.The setting of activities is centered on the realization of students’ learning and understanding ability.4.Lack of targeted analysis of learning situation.(2)The students’ English subject ability is poor,and their learning and understanding ability is relatively better than their application and innovation ability.Among them,the descriptive interpretation,integrated application,reasoning and judgment,predictive imagination and critical evaluation ability in the secondary ability elements are relatively weak.(3)The teaching materials have certain conditions for cultivating students’ subject ability,but teachers need to dig deeply into the textual connotation and design corresponding teaching activities to achieve the goal of cultivating students’ English ability.After four months of two-round action research,through the post-test of students’ English subject ability and student questionnaires,the author found that the action research of the design of the reading teaching in English class at high school based on the ability of English subject has a positive impact on students.At the same time,through the action research,the author has clarified the design of reading teaching based on the ability elements of English subjects and the framework of performance indicators: 1.In-depth study of texts 2.Strengthening analysis of studying situations 3.Reasonable setting of teaching goals 4.Reasonable design of teaching activities 5.Implement interactive classroom exchanges.Afterfour months of action research,the author also has a deeper understanding of the English subject ability and its performance indicator framework,the design of reading teaching,and teacher action research.
