Chinese Translation Of Lexical Cohesion Devices In English Papers Of Agricultural Sciences

As China is more open to the outside world,information exchanges in the field of agricultural science and technology are becoming increasingly frequent between China and foreign countries.In order to introduce foreign advanced agrotechniques and management experience,a large number of documents of English for Science and Agriculture need urgently to be translated into Chinese.However,differences on hypotaxis and parataxis between English and Chinese bring difficulties in translation concerning lexical cohesion devices.Inspired by lexical cohesion theory with my translation practice,this thesis proposed three translation methods of lexical cohesion devices in English papers of agricultural sciences,respectively,keeping,converting and eliminating source language’s lexical cohesion devices.Lexical cohesion device such as repetition,hyponymy,collocation,antonym and synonym are analyzed in keeping lexical cohesion devices.Conversion,between cohesion of the source language(involving antonym,hyponymy and synonym)and repetition cohesion of the target language,is dealt with in converting lexical cohesion devices.In the end,eliminating repetition and synonym cohesion devices of source language are discussed.For the length of the thesis and personal academic accumulation,this thesis has not yet given a full explanation for the rules and reasons of applying the three translation strategies.Therefore,further explorations are needed for bettering translation of English papers in agricultural sciences.
