A Study On Russell’s View Of Happiness

Russell is mainly concerned about the common people’s happiness.And there are two reasons for the people why they are unhappy,social system and personal psychology,of which the social system is the primary reason.People who are unhappy tend to pay too much attention to themselves or their own interest groups.The objective elements can help to achieve happiness,include the development of the outward interests,the improvement of the family system,the construction of harmonious family relationships,the need for appropriate work,the wise use of science.It follows that Russell’s view of happiness contains abundant practical ethics.At the same time,Russell’s view of happiness still has unique theoretical significance.He criticized the idea of virtue as the goal.The ethical guidelines can only proceed from the human desire.It can only serve as a means rather than a goal of itself.“Good” as the highest standard of judgment of moral standards,its purpose is happiness.Based on Russell’s theory of human nature,this paper reveals the root and essence of happiness.He properly solves the mutuality of happiness and analyzes the four elements of happiness,love,knowledge,luck and effort.Although he is more concerned about how to achieve personal happiness,but Russell’s goal of happiness is to meet the individual’s desire to achieve the purpose of achieving universal satisfaction,and ultimately build the happiness of all mankind.It has a profound significance for us to create a better life.Through the analysis of the characteristics of Russell’s happiness view,the author summarizes it as “the mutuality of happiness”,“criticizes the morality criterion of repressing human nature”,“negates the role of faith in happiness” and “freedom as the first place”.On the basis of analyzing these characteristics,the author puts forward the viewpoints.
