Studies On The Dialects Of Fu Chongju’s Chengdu Tonglan

From 1909 to 1910 in the Qing dynasty,Chengdu Tonglan published by the Press of Chengdu common newspaper,which is also called”Chengdu saying”,a comprehensive introduction of the Chengdu’s society and local conditions and customs of the late 19 th century early 20 th century.The anthor Fu Chongju(1875-1917)comes from Jianyang of Sichuan Province,who’s also named Qiaocun.In his youth,his family moved to Chengdu,which makes him praise himself of Chengdu people.He wrote the Chengdu Tonglan based on the field survey of living in Chengdu for a longtime,which makes the book a comprehensive and detailed material with a high credibility and valuable materials of studying the Chengdu’s customs,society,economy,culture,education and religion,etc one hundred years ago.Chengdu Tonglan consisting of two hundreds categories,especially the children’s song and so on more than ten categories among it recording the dialect of Chengdu,so do the rest of the all categories,which are also recording a lot of dialect proverb.In the view of Linguistics,the book is not only a precious document of researching the Chengdu’s vocabulary but also important materials of exploring the Chengdu’s phonetic features because many of the book corpus loading the voice message at that time.In additon,awing to its comprehensive reflecting the customs,covering the Chengdu’s development of economy,culture,education,religion,daliy life and so on,which makes the book treasured materials of studying dialect’s words connecting to the customs and culture.At present,there is few of research findings of the Chengdu Tonglan from the perspective of linguistics research.we do comprehensively contrasted and examined the six different versions of Chengdu Tonglan,and select the content to which the most intact,version of 1987 as the research object.This paper introduced the style and the overall pattern,from which we can spy out the basic features of Chengdu’s dialect vocabulary.we saw its dialect’s recording way--recording what people sa y as it is as our important clue to search the dialect’s phonetic message what the dialect word in the book transmitted.At the same time,we made a preliminary observation of the toponym factor of “Ba” in the cultural and historical perspective,a preliminary investigation of the superimposed phenomenon the corn and the term ”Indian corn” carrying on.During the study of adjective type“ABB”,we revealed the relationship between the rhythm of affix “BB” and the appraise tendency of word meaning.With reference to the two Chengdu dialect dictionary,we do analyzed the inheritance and evolution of the adjective shape of “ABB”.In the comparison and analysis,we found out that the numerous and time-honored toponym factor”Ba”in Chengdu Tonglan directly inherited the characteristics of the ancient Bashu dialect,from which we can dig up the heritage of ancient Bashu dialect in the Chengdu dialect.The adjective shape of ABB’s different rhythm of suffix ”BB”is the expression of different subjective emotion bias.The level tone of the suffix “BB” tend to express good feelings,while the third tone of it tend to express negative emotion.This article is a part of Professor Deng Yingshu’s humanity social sciences project”Studies on the history of Sichuan dialect”,we try our best to explore the linguistics and dialectology of Chengdu Tonglan.
