This paper mainly focuses on researching the characteristics of professional c ompetence and knowledge structure and its development of the postgraduates of t he Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Language major in some colleges in Wuhan,Hubei Province.This paper is divided into four parts:In Chapter1,the research significance,methods and status of the topic are in troduced.In Chapter2,the characteristics of the professional competence and the knowl edge structure of the postgraduates of MTCSL based on English major are investi gated and analyzed.By comparing them with the basic qualities that the excellent Chinese teachers should have,the following advantages of the master’s degree in MTCSL are summed up:they have a certain linguistic knowledge to understand the English culture with the experience of systematic learning and the ability to compare Chinese and foreign languages.But also have some inevitable shortcom ings:their basic knowledge about Chinese is not good enough,and they are lack of pedagogy and psychological knowledge.What’s more,they unconsciously use too much of the interlanguage in the classroom and are easily to get into "pedi atrics" theory errors.In Chapter 3,in order to prove the objective existence of the above advanta ges and disadvantages,whether the background of English major has an affect on the cultivation of master’s degree as well as the authenticity of Chinese classroo m are further demonstrated.The author adopts the method of questionnaire survey to collect the views of the first batch of masters in MTCSL based on English major among the four colleges in Wuhan,Hubei Province,and illustrates the spec ific development through data.The results of the survey are basically consistent with those described in Chapter 2.In Chapter 4,the author puts forward the following suggestions combined wi th the results of the research.Masters in MTCSL based on English major should upgrade themselves from the following perspectives:continue to reinforce the fo undation of their English language skills,enrich themselves with cultural knowled ge about the English country and other countries,supplement both the Chinese b asic knowledge and the pedagogy psychology knowledge,keep away from "pediat rics" theory misunderstanding,help students establish a benign intermediary syste m and correctly use the classroom language by virtue of the English language an d cultural advantages to establish a harmonious classroom atmosphere and their o wn experience of foreign language learning.While as for the colleges set up the major of MTCSL,they should do take the following measures based on the cond itions permit:increase both the basic knowledge of Chinese courses,and the ped agogy and other elective courses,and streamline those repetitive courses.Further more,during the process of the external output of teachers,different educational background of teachers should be taken into consideration and make the most rea sonable assignment for different countries.
