Objective(s):The purpose of this study was to investigate the status oftooth defect,dentition defects,edentulism,and restoration,then to analyze the related influential factors among the elderly from Kunming.To provide basis for the oral health care workers to take care of the oral health pertinently of the elderly.It also provides information support for the policy making to promote oral health of the elderly,and provides data reference for thedepartment of oral public health to prevent oral disease in Yunnan Province.Methods:We used the method of phased fixed-point sampling and designed a cross-sectional survey,with two parts of oral health examination and questionnaire,to get status of the elderly(? 60 years old)from 12 districts in Kunming.The questionnaire part includes general information,oral health knowledge,attitude and lifestyle.After completion of the field survey data,a data template was established with Epidata software.Descriptive statistics,Pearson ? 2 with the software of SPSS21.0.Results:1.A total of 1653 elderly people were investigated in this survey,among them,799 were men,854 were women.The average age was 69.7±6.4 years,and ranged from 60-93 years.52.6%of them were from urban,others were from country.2.1455 people was dental defect(88.0%),and the average number of teeth defect was 6.Dental caries accounted for 72.3%of all defective teeth.It was the main cause of tooth defect.The second was wedge-shaped defect(25.3%).1490 people was dentition defect(90.1%),and 92 people was edentulism(5.6%),the average number of teeth missing is 10.3.The percentage of elderly who have at least 20 teeth was decrease in different age groups.People who have met the requirement of "6020" was 1172(75.5%),and only 46 people(45.5%)over 80 years old have met the requirement of "8020".4.542 people(36.4%)have repaired dentition defect,and 27 people(28.3%)have repaired edentulism.5.Some of the demographic factors,such as gender,age,education,economic level and region,all were the influential factors.There were significant differences in dental defect and dentition defect in different age groups(p=0<0.05).But edentulism was not(p=0.33>0.05).There were significant differences in dental defect,dentition defect,edentulism,restoration in different education,economic level and region(p<0.05).6.Tooth position is related to dental defect and tooth missing.The highest risk of tooth defect and loss is the molar area,and the second is the anterior and premolar areas.In different parts of dentition,the rate of tooth defect was higher in female than in male,and the rate of tooth loss in male was higher than that in female.To compare with the maxillary and mandibular of tooth missing,the fomer was more risky than the latter.7.The results of oral health knowledge cognition showed that people failure of answering oral health knowledge was 74.5%.They were higher rate of edentulism and lower rate of dentition restoration.The results of the oral consciousness showed that toothache,tooth missing,and tooth decay were the top three reasons of visiting dentist.Conclusion(s):1.The oral health of the elderly in Kunming is not optimistic,and the dental caries are serious.There are dental defects,dentition defects and dentition defects in all ages.2.Serious caries in the elderly and It's the main causes of tooth defect.Another common phenomenon is wedge-shaped defect.3.The oral problems of the old people are serious and complicated.The rate of repair is far below the defect rate.The elderly has high demand for repair but weak ability.The repair rate is significantly influenced by educational and economic level.4.The income and educational level of the elderly in Kunming are quite different.Most of them suffer from chronic diseases and have low ability of oral health awareness,behavior and oral health knowledge.Because of many influential factors,It requires a wide range of input and cooperative to improve the oral health and quality life of the elderly.
