Study On The Application Of Quilting Art In Modern Women’s Wear

Patchwork is a traditional folk handicraft that stitches pieces of cloth from daily life into new patterns and decorations.The patchwork art initially appeared in the form of practical items in people’s daily life.With the development of social economy,the spread of culture,the improvement of people’s aesthetic ability,it has experienced changes from practicality to aesthetics and from the material level to the spiritual level.Today,patchwork art has become a casual fashion and a new type of clothing element.Because the patchwork culture was gradually spread from the United States,Japan and South Korea to China,most people have the false impression that patchwork art was “imported”.However,experts have found that patchwork art is not unique in abroad,but has richer and longer history in Chinese clothing.there is important practical and cultural meaning for people understanding the patchwork art correctly to combine its development context in both China and the West.Furthermore,there is also a pressing theoretical need for its future development by studying the combination and application of patchwork art in modern women’s wear design.According to current monographs and papers about patchwork,most of them have studied patchwork craftsmanship,and there is a relative lack of researches in the field of in modern women’s wear design.Based on the existing academic researches,this article begins with historical materials and cultural relics,sorts out the representative forms and developments of patchwork art in the history of Chinese clothing,outlines its important stages of development in Western history,and systematically analyzes the cultural connotation and artistic value of patchwork art through the horizontal comparison at home and abroad and vertical comparison of representative domestic forms.Then from the analysis of the application of patchwork arts in in modern women’s wear design cases and the combination with the graphic decomposition made by the author,this article summarizes the application law of patchwork in in modern women’s wear design in three main aspects: pattern,color and material.It is expected that the traditional art of patchwork art can gain concern from more fashion designers and common people,and be better applied to modern fashion design.
