Since recent 50 years from 1966,the conception of silica glass fiber can transmit optical information was first proposed by the ethnic Chinese scientist Kao Kun,the manufacturing and related technology of optical fiber has achieved great development.Nowadays,Optical fiber communication and optical fiber sensing technology has become the two main developing direction of the optical fiber technology.Especially along with the rapid development of sensor technology in recent years,optical fiber sensing technology towards a high sensitivity,high reliability,low power consumption,miniaturization and diversification,the fiber performance requirements are also increasing.According to the requirements of different applications,researchers pay more and more attention on the fiber with special structure.Therefore,it is conducive to the development of optical fiber technology by researching a new structure optical fiber.In this paper,we based on the summary of the previous research,through the analysis and conclusion,we put forward to a new structure of the side hole fiber.Firstly,we prepare the foundation theory of structural mechanics,analysis the generation principle of stress-strain in cross section of optical fiber,and establish the finite element model of the fiber cross section by the mathematical modeling method.Analysis the characteristic of PMF by COMSOL Multiphysics.Include the stress distribution in cross section of optical fiber and its generation reasons,and calculate the stress birefringence value.Analysis the light energy distribution in optical fiber and its influence factors.Get the mode birefringence value.Based on this,we also research on the different fiber structures to find the variation trend of polarization maintaining characteristic.In addition,through the computational fluid dynamics module of ANSYS to calculate the neck region of fiber perform.We analysis the side-hole's deformation of the side hole fiber in the melt spinning process.Finally,we explore the the processing and manufacturing method of side hole fiber perform.And put forward a feasible method to make the side hole fiber perform,which laid the foundation for the manufacturing method of side hole fiber.
