Since the laser was produced, the research on lasers has been more and more in-depth and the requirement of lasers has gotten higher and higher with the rapid development of the optical communication technology. The passively mode-locked laser draws more and more attention of most researchers due to its quite narrow pulse width, high power and good stability. And mode-locked lasers have been found profoundly significant applications in some vital fields, such as laser ranging, biomedical engineering, supercontinuum generation and so on.Thus, the research on passively mode-locked lasers has quite great importance on the application of the mode-locked lasers in reality. In the thesis, the mode-locking mechanism has been researched and analyzed in detail with the correct theoretical model. And the contents of the thesis are as follows:1.Compared to the traditional steady state model, the output characteristic is numerically simulated when the dynamic model of rate equations of the ring fiber laser is established;2.As to the picosecond order of light pulses, the impacts of the group velocity dispersion(GVD)and self-phase modulation(SPM)on the propagation in the fiber are analyzed accurately based on the nonlinear Schrodinger equation(NLSE);3.The different mode-locking mechanisms which consist of actively mode-locked,passively mode-locked and mixed mode-locked are introduced and their characteristics are analyzed;4.The passively mode-locked theoretical model is established to simulate the evolution process of the optical pulse in the laser with the different net cavity dispersion, and to analyze the impacts of the net cavity dispersion and the gain coefficient on the mode-locking mechanism, which can provide reference for optimizing passively mode-locked fiber lasers.
