Image processing technology research has been popular in the scientific research, and it has widely used in daily life and scientific research. In many cases, we need use the non-global processing with the region of interest in the image, so selecting the region of interest in the image becomes an important part of the image processingIn recent years, with the continuous development of web application technology and the continuous improvement of browser performance,there has been a growing number of web applications. Web applications are easy to use and attracting more and more users with its continuously improving performance. And therefore derived the online image processing tools, but these tools only have simple function,can not directly make the pixel level processing on the image. With the establishment and popularization of html5 standards, Web applications are becoming more and more powerful, and the effect is more brilliant.The new technology in html5-canvas, allows developers to process images in pixel-level, which makes a lot of image processing technologies can be achieved with canvas on the web. With the development of internet technology, B/S mode, which based on internet technology, can solve this kind of problem well. It can greatly simplify the operation and reduce the load of client computer, and it does not require users to maintain and upgrade the application. This mode can make different developers, on different location, to work together in different ways. So this mode can greatly enhance the work efficiency.This paper is based on the html5 standard, using the Canvas to achieve the automatic region of interest extraction on the Web. The main work is as follows:(1)Studied the algorithm of region extraction based on edge extraction,Image segmentation and the active contour, and decide the plan of the automatic region of interest extraction based on HTML5 by combining the Web applications' environment.(2)Studied the Snake model and GVF-Snake model's mathematical representation, realization principle and solving process. And make improvement by combining the LOG and Canvas, completed the design and implementation of the overall algorithm.(3) Designed and achieved the interactive ROI area extraction system on Web. And make the specific improvement on the Web,achieved a good interaction and had good results. Then tested the overall system and had a deeper outlook.The paper realized and improve the interactive ROI area of the image selection and automatically extract the outline of the ROI area on the web based on the research of the image ROI area extraction algorithm, after the test, the system is stable, interactive and friendly, and the final extraction effect is good. Hope that through the exploratory research, we can enrich the field of web applications, and make people's live more convenient.
