Research On How Wechat Groups Influence Group Incidents

In recent years,with the emergence of WeChat and its booming development,more and more people have begun to take part in every activity of daily life by using a mobile phone application called WeChat.WeChat is changing our lives by its unique way,from instant communications between friends,to all aspects of daily life.Mass incidents shows new characteristics and different traditions with the combination of WeChat.This paper aims to figure out how WeChat group influence the mass incidents,so the author selected the event "County H’s waste incineration power plant in Zhejiang province" happened in April 2016,and analyzed the detailed effect of WeChat group.In the second chapter,the author introduced the County H’s incinerator project and the occurrence of the incident,and then elaborated the incident’s social reason and backgrounds.Before and after the mass incidents,the chatting text in WeChat group can be roughly divided into seven categories,including describing facts,catharsis,planning and organization,calm persuasion,considerable discussion,confusing information and sidelines.The influence of WeChat opinion about mass incidents can be divided into four stages,the gestation period,the outbreak period,extending period and fading period.Through adding interviewing and media reports,the author analyzed the specific impact towards the mass incidents in this four stages.WeChat communication has brought many new changes to the traditional mass incidents,including users’ active participation in discussions and features of WeChat communication’s diversified carrier;Multi-polarization spread and the interpersonal communication’s path,as well as the communicating model based on WeChat’s close private space,which is difficult to monitor.WeChat’ s mobilization and organization influence model on the mass incidents can be separated into three types,including booming,influence,changing influence and inhibitory influence.WeChat has played a lot of roles in mass incidents,and the influenced results include helping to establish group identity,setting framework of group mobilization,emerging of new mode of political participation and new public space,as well as Online to Offline model,which is a new model for nowadays’ mass incidents.
