| The report describes one whispered interpreting task the author performed in an SAP training session of a foreign company in Xiamen.Whispered interpreting,as a variation of simultaneous interpreting,is a multi-task job.In the report,the author elaborates on her pre-task preparation and the whole process of whispered interpreting task,and mainly discusses the problems she encountered when interpreting.By analyzing the transcriptions and recalling the situation of interpreting,the author finds out that unbalanced effort distribution is the main culprit to blame for most of her disfluencies in the task.Professor Gile’s Effort Model for SI,which describes multiple cognitive operations during an interpreting process,serves as a key thread of studies in this report.Based on the Model,the author’s effort distribution in the whispered interpreting practice has been analyzed in real cases.Also,the author explores four underlying reasons behind her unbalanced effort distribution and suggests some coping tactics accordingly to achieve coordinated efforts.The report purports to shed some lights on interpreters’ effort distribution when conducting C-E whispered interpreting in similar cases. |
