The Study Of Liang Shu-ming’s Cultural Nationalism

In the first half of twentieth Century,the Chinese national crisis and cultural crisis gradually deepened,caught in the “nation in peril ” condition.However,the new culture school and cultural conservatives debated on using which country’s culture,until cultural coordination standpoint appeared in the post World War I.Liang Shu-ming was effected by this culture shock,then strengthened understanding about Chinese Confucian culture.finally,he published Culture and Philosophy in East and West in 1921,which systematically expounded his unique cultural nationalism.This thesis successively discussed about Liang’s cultural nationalism’s historical background,its main contents,and characteristics and influence aspects.The first chapter outlines the historical background of Liang Shu-ming’s cultural nationalism.This part expound from three aspects including : the national crisis of modern China has gradually deepened;the China’s cultural crisis became more and more serious;Liang Shu-ming’s analysis work of the cultural nationalism appeared.The second chapter discuss about the main content and practice of Liang Shu-ming’s cultural nationalism.With compared to the culture quality of eastern and western,Liang put forward the rational view of Chinese national crisis perspective and path,including the Chinese national crisis was essentially a cultural crisis;China culture was better than western culture;only Chinese culture did save the nation;Chinese cultural renaissance chose which way.The third chapter evaluate the characteristics and influence of Liang Shu-ming’s cultural nationalism.It was the first time that he had summed up the cultural nature of the Chinese nation.He paid special attention to the full integration of Chinese and Western culture.His cultural nationalism thought was the creative understanding about the eastern and Western cultural studies,which was known as the beginning of the Neo Confucianism.Therefore,his cultural nationalism had a great influence on the later cultural native school.In short,Liang Shu-ming’s cultural nationalism was a times product of the Chinese in period of 1920 s to 1930 s,which not only reflected the desire of intellectual saving the nation,but also inevitably had the limitations of the times.
