A Report On Simulated Interpretation Of The Documentary The Belt And Road

With the economic development,people are pursuing higher spiritual civilization.As a special form of film,the nature of documentary lies in presenting history and reality objectively.With a more visual way of passing information and feelings,documentary provides people with a window of understanding the world in a macroscopic view and is gaining broad popularity.Meanwhile,under the increasingly pace of globalization,documentary,carrying high function value,is playing an indispensable role in China’s external exchanges.Many documentaries issued by China Central Television(CCTV),containing rich cultural background and connotation of China’s reform and open up policy,are good mediums.However,most of these documentaries have no English translation version,and thus have relatively limited audiences.Imagine,if they are translated into English version and taken as publicity-orientated materials to show China to the world,their function value will be further embodied.This thesis is a simulated interpretation report on a documentary,based on the first part Common Destiny and second part The Road to Connectivity of the full-length documentary The Belt and Road.The Belt and Road initiative is an important plan by Chinese government conducting all-directional reform and opening up,delivering great vision of economic cooperation by building trade road with countries along the Silk Road,which has strong background significance.The author takes Interpretive Theory as the theoretical basis,elaborates its origin and development,main translation ideas and translation criteria,conducts this documentary interpreting from the perspective of Interpretive Theory,uses relevant translation methods to analyze specific cases with the purpose of exploring the real guiding significance of Interpretive Theory towards this documentary interpreting practice.After the interpreting task,the author summarizes the learned lesson for guiding future interpreting task.This report contains five parts.The first part is about the preface,introducing the documentary and significance of this interpretation.The second part is literature review,describing the guiding theory-Interpretive Theory.The third part talks about the process of this interpretation,including previous preparation,interpreting process and review.Fourthly,the author analyzes interpreting cases by using relative translation methods under the perspective of Interpretive Theory.Lastly,there is a general summary of a learned lesson from this interpretation practice,mainly about what the author has gained,the existing problems and difficulties,thoughts for future study plans.From this interpretation practice,the author gained a deeper understanding of the Interpretive Theory and thus improved interpreting ability.At the same time,the author also achieved a more particular knowledge of the great significance of The Belt and Road initiative in China’s all-round foreign reform and opening up policy.
